BECDA This is a violation of the trainer-trainee contract. Your educational supervisor has to spend a minimum of 3 full days with you in a working week. In this situation it is best first to address your concerns to your educational supervisor. Reminding him of his contractual agreement and telling him you feel you are not getting the right amount of supervision is the first thing you should do. Your practice manager is someone you will see on a regular basis and therefore it is also a good option to seek advice from him. He is in a good position to speak to your educational supervisor, reminding him of his contractual and teaching obligation to you, allowing for the situation to be resolved within the practice. Option C is taking the situation further but may be a necessary step to take. Your scheme leader has regular reviews with all the educational supervisors and therefore will support you and address your concerns directly to the educational supervisor.

It is not the responsibility of the associates to provide you with supervision and guidance. There may be odd days and occasions where your educational supervisor is off on sick/annual leave where he may ask another dentist to assist in supervising the FD when required; however, this should only be an option in exceptional circumstances. Option A is not dealing with your concerns and the situation. In the question it is only your first month as a FD a time where supervision and guidance from your educational supervisor is most important. Continuing to practice as normal will harm your development and potentially put patients at risk.
